Vans and women’s snowboard powerhouse Mary Rand have reunited once again to create a fresh take on the Ferra Pro, a snowboard boot developed to meet the demands of the female rider. For the 2019/20 season, the Ferra Pro has been updated with a unique floral colorway, inspired by the global team rider’s favorite design elements of classic flash tattoo art.
Hailing from the East Coast, and cutting her teeth riding rugged street and park terrain, Mary has since made her way west and quickly added “backcountry savage” to the list; as such, in her role as global pro, there’s a lot more powder in her program. The stark contrast of terrain required a boot that could do it all; enter the Ferra Pro.
A progressive, multi-faceted women’s boot, the Ferra Pro has been engineered from the inside out for premium comfort, customized fit and unlimited adaptability. A female-specific last combines with the precision support of Vans’ Hybrid Boa® closure system, delivering pro-level response, flex and function literally at your fingertips.
New for the Ferra Pro this season is V2 Ultracush Smartwool Liner, a first-to-market merino wool heat-moldable liner for new levels of comfort and warmth, and the added benefit of the material’s natural odor-resistant properties and quick drying capabilities.
The boot also ushers in the all-new V2 PopCush footbed, which is dual-density, 3D-molded and anatomically shaped with a top sheet of open-cell foam to allow airflow under and around the foot, increasing warmth and dryness. Combined with the V2 WaffleFlex outsole – a lightweight construction with metatarsal flex grooves – the tech delivers improved board-feel and natural flex.
Adjustability is also paramount with the Ferra Pro. The Hybrid Boa Closure System is a tech combo that enables adjustable flex control and powerful heel hold throughout the instep area using the Custom Slide Guide. The result is a highly customized flex and fit that can be adjusted on-the-go and in the areas where you need it most.
Although her home mountain was more like a small hill at best, Mary Rand made the most of Yawgoo Valley, Rhode Island, joining the ranks of the infinitely creative, local Yawgoons crew. It turns out her board control skills translated nicely to the streets, and once she started filming, it was on.
Today she’s recognized for her rapid trajectory in both the underground and mainstream snowboarding worlds. Her hard work paid off when she was named Rookie of The Year in 2015, and she backed it up with a full part in “Rendered Useless,” earning her the 2016 TransWorld Reader’s Choice award.
Now based in Seattle, Mary is on a mission to shred more pow, recently releasing the “Listen to the Eyes” video project alongside Vans team riders Hana Beaman and Leanne Pelosi. A positive role model for the next generation of women athletes, she puts emphasis on living a healthy, active lifestyle while continually pushing the boundaries of women’s snowboarding.
